1776: The Room Where It Happens

1776 will be staged starting this weekend, April 22-24 and 29-May 1. This Tony award-winning musical describes the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress of the newly formed United States of America. In this blog post, our Artistic Director (who also happens to be directing the show) provides some insight on why she programmed this particular work as well as her insights on its content such as how much liberty can be taken with facts to tell a good story.

“This is something many playwrights wrestle with when trying to write a play based on historical events.  How much can and should be  be changed to make the play more dramatically appealing while not losing the essence and historical truth of the story.” – Brenneman

Please take a moment to read Robin’s blog post before you join us in the theater to enjoy this “historic:” production!
