Brighton Beach Memoirs is part one of Neil Simon’s autobiographical trilogy: a portrait of the writer as a young teen in 1937 living with his family in a crowded, lower middle-class Brooklyn walk-up. Eugene Jerome, standing in for the author, is the narrator and central character. Dreaming of baseball and girls, Eugene must cope with the mundane existence of his family life in Brooklyn: formidable mother, overworked father, and his worldly older brother Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche, her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters and you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Simon-style. This bittersweet memoir evocatively captures the life of a struggling Jewish household where, as his father states “if you didn’t have a problem, you wouldn’t be living here.”

“Brighton Beach Memoirs” with HAC is a non-paid, community theatre opportunity. Everyone and anyone in the central Ohio area, 18 and older, is invited to audition.
While we schedule two days of auditions, you only need to attend one audition session.
At this time, there is no need for an appointment.
We request that you bring a photo. It does not have to be formal or fancy. If you haven’t done a show with us before, it will help us remember who you are.
Those auditioning should be prepared to:
-Participate in a cold reading from the script (for those wishing a speaking role)
Please note that by auditioning, you are obligating yourself to a considerable rehearsal and performance process. This show runs for two weeks. Please be certain that you are willing and able to make this commitment.
After the auditions, all those who audition are contacted via email. An announcement is made at auditions to clarify when they should expect to hear from the production team.
Callbacks will be scheduled, if/as necessary. Not being called back does not mean that you are not in the show. Likewise, being called back does not guarantee participation.
A cast list is posted on the HAC website once it is final.
Casting decisions are ultimately made by the Director and are final. HAC reserves the right to recast a part if a performer behaves in a manner that is deemed detrimental to the production.
Rehearsals are generally held M-Th 7-9, Sat. 9-11 and Sun. 2-4.
