The Hilliard Arts Council's Summer Concert Series will continue on Autust 1 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the gazebo on Norwich Street with a special concert for children. The concert will feature tow gifted performers, well known to the kids of Hilliard: "Mrs. Sparkles" (aka Debbie Taylor) and Barry Weaver. Mrs. Sparkles taught kindergarten in the Hilliard City Schools for thirty-five years before retiring in 2008. "Mrs. Sparkles" now performs professionally across the country encouraging the development of an appreciation and love of music and dance to yung children. Barry Weaver has been teaching in Hilliard for many years. He is currently a teacher of the gited at Darby Creek Elementary School. Barry is also a very talented musician who plays guitar and banjo. His performance of folk music and storytelling have been enjoyed by our children for many years. The Arts Council is pleased to be able t offer this program for the children of our community. We believe adults will also enjoy this special evening. There will be free popcorn and lemonade served to the children, sponsored by the Northwest Franklin County Historical Society and HAC.
On August 7, the Hilliard Community Band will perform at the St. James Lutheran Church Bratwurst Festival and on August 12 at the Hilliard Municipal Park. The Hilliard Arts Council is proud to sponsor this excellent community band, under the direction of John Crumley. If you have not heard them perform, you really should make the effort anc chances are y ou will recognize one of the performers, if not more, s either a neighbor or friend.
On August 8th the outstanding group "Death By Banjo" will return to perform this year after giving one of the most popular programs of the last year's summer concert series. "Death By Banjo" performs bluegrass and country and western music using authentic instruments audiences do not get enough chances to hear performed. The group will perform from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Historical Society's Gazebo on Norwich St. This is a performance you will not want to miss. Ths performance, as alll of our summer concert series programs, is free to the public. We just ask you to bring a lawn chair and enjoy.
