Community Theatre - Recent Performance

The Hilliard Arts Council will present Jekyll and Hyde for its annual summer musical. The show dates are July 11 and 12 at 8:00 pm and July 13 at 3:00 pm. The production will be presented at Hilliard Davidson High School Performing Arts Center, 5100 Davidson Rd. in Hilliard. Tickets are 15.00 for adults and 13.00 for senior citizens and students. The show is rated PG-13 due to mature themes.

Jekyll and Hyde is a musical based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic story about a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous alter ego. Convinced the cure for his father’s mental illness lies in the separation of Man’s evil nature from his good, Dr. Henry Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of late 19th century London as the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde. The lush, romantic pop score includes the hit songs “This is the Moment,” and “Someone Like You” and “ Once Upon a Dream.” Book and lyrics are by Leslie Bricusse, music by Frank Wildhorn.

Portraying the demanding role of Jekyll and Hyde is Gahanna resident, David Hammond. The role of Emma is played by Brooke Andres of Westerville and Lucy is played by Diana Zambrotta of Hilliard. Other cast members include Kurt Zielenbach of Hilliard playing Sir Danvers, Emma’s father, Kevin Doll of Upper Arlington playing Jekyll’s best friend, Utterson and Jeff Meyers of Hilliard playing Stride, Jekyll’s rival for Emma’s affections. Ken Brenneman is providing musical direction, Robin Brenneman will be the director with Scott Jones doing choreography. Technical direction and set design provided by Diana Vance. Jan Woods, costumer at Ohio State Theatre Department, and Sheila Hively will design costumes.

The Hilliard Arts Council is the first community theatre in the Columbus area to produce Jekyll and Hyde. The show is enormously popular in the theatrical community which resulted in a very large turnout for auditions of over 70 people. The cast, crew and orchestra will number about 100. For more information contact Ken or Robin Brenneman at 614-527-4407, email kenrob@columbus.rr.com or visit www.hilliardartscouncil.org.
